Thanksgiving is still a few weeks away, but getting ready now may lead to fewer headaches while traveling.
One step consumers could take is to make sure their vehicle is ready for a trip. The American Society of Travel Agents recommends motorists have their car tuned up, which would include changing its oil, checking fluids and having the proper tire pressure.
“The slightest deficiency in air pressure significantly reduces your car’s gas mileage,” says the ASTA. “On the flip side, too much air can result in a flat.”
While in another locale during a holiday trip, some people may opt to rent a vehicle. Often, this will involve the rental company’s suggestion of additional car insurance coverage.
However, many consumers may already have coverage for rental cars through their auto insurance coverage. Experts note drivers should contact their policy provider to see what level of protection they have.
Air travel may also be involved when visiting family members during the holidays. The ASTA says booking a ticket early on and getting to the airport ahead of time can make traveling through the air much less stressful.
